Why Us?
Promoting/Branding
Hack the Skies has proven itself to be a strong competitor in the hackathon space, given the previous event being online, yet still having 100+ applicants. With goals to hold the event in-person in 2025, it becomes apparent that the event is a great means to market any brand, given the strong exposure and mind share that comes with branding within a large, yet closely-knit community.
Sponsoring not only means teens are made aware of an organization and their products, but they associate it with the positive environment of the hackathon.
Product Development
Given the technical nature of the event, it serves as a great means of testing out new products (i.e. technologies, APIs, platforms, etc). This has the added benefit of being able to receive feedback directly from consumers, as well as watching them use and familiarize themselves with it.
Community Outreach
Hack the Skies attracts some of the brightest teen minds in the GTA. This means not only does it serve as a great chance to tackle real-world issues, but it allows for organizations to directly interact with the youth and scope new ideas, and potentially hire their next great intern/employee.
Why Us?
Hack the Skies is a high school student-run 501(c)(3) hackathon organization, backed by Hack Club and founded in September of 2023 by students from Danforth Collegiate and Technical Institute in Toronto, Canada; an organization founded by high school students, for high school students.
The main goal of Hack the Skies is to provide high school students in the GTA community with the opportunity to develop their their programming, problem-solving, collaborative, and networking skills.
What is a Hackathon?
A Hackathon is an event which, contrary to the name, does NOT involve hacking. Rather, it is a high-energy, collaborative. event in which students work together to solve a problem given in the form of a prompt, usually within a timespan of 24 - 48 hours. They are challenged with coming up with a comprehensive solution, creating a prototype, and pitching in front of judges.
Last year, Hack the Skies received 100+ applications for an online event, which saw the creation of 16 unique projects, and was able to distribute $500+ worth of prizes. More details can be found in our annual report!
